Peers/Venus Reach First Team Final In Dubai; Kubot Records 400th Match Win
Kubot records 400th doubles match win in Acapulco
The unseeded pairing saved all three break points it faced to claim its third straight-sets victory in as many matches this week. Peers and Venus also beat Frenchmen Pierre-Hugues Herbert and Benoit Paire and defending champions Rajeev Ram and Joe Salisbury en route to the championship match.
Top seeds Juan Sebastian Cabal and Robert Farah cruised past Adrian Mannarino/Fabrice Martin 6-4, 6-2 to reach the final at the Abierto Mexicano Telcel presentado por HSBC in Acapulco. Cabal and Farah are seeking their first title since prevailing last September at the US Open (d. Granollers/Zeballos).
They'll take on second seeds Lukasz Kubot and Marcelo Melo, who rallied to beat Nikola Cacic and Dusan Lajovic 6-7(6), 6-0, 10-6. Kubot, who has now recorded 400 doubles matches wins in his career, prevailed at this event in 2010 (w/Marach) and Melo took the title in 2015 (w/Dodig).
At the Chile Dove Men+Care Open in Santiago, second seeds Marcelo Arevalo and Jonny O'Mara reached the final with a 7-6(5), 6-4 win against Facundo Bagnis and Pablo Cuevas. They advanced to their first ATP Tour doubles final this season and improved to 10-3 in 2020.
Awaiting them in Saturday's championship match are Roberto Carballes Baena and Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, who eased past Marcelo Tomas Barrios Vera and Alejandro Tabilo 6-3, 6-2 after 70 minutes. Both men are competing in their first tour-level doubles final.
