De Minaur Withdraws From Australian Open
The Australian Open will not have its top-ranked Aussie in action after No. 20 seed Alex de Minaur withdrew from the first major of the year on Thursday due to an abdominal injury.
The injury also forced De Minaur to pull out of this week's Adelaide International. He opened the year by leading Team Australia to the semi-finals at the ATP Cup. De Minaur scored a pair of big wins against Alexander Zverev and Denis Shapovalov, saved four match points with Nick Kyrgios to prevail in their winner-takes-all quarter-final doubles match against Great Britain (d. J. Murray/Salisbury) and stretched World No. 1 Rafael Nadal to three sets in the semi-finals against Spain.
Serbian Dusan Lajovic is now the No. 24 seed and Canadian Milos Raonic moves up to the No. 32 seed. The draw will be made on Thursday at 6:00pm AEDT in Melbourne.
